Na quinta edição do curso da Cultive, público se emocionou com relatos de pacientes que precisam da cannabis como remédio

Havia muita gente de olhos vermelhos na saída de um tradicional teatro do bairro paulistano do Bixiga, no final da tarde do último domingo, dia 25, quando a quinta edição do curso da Cultive terminou. O principal objetivo do curso é ensinar os presentes a cultivar maconha, mas a maior parte dos olhos vermelhos tinha outra explicação: lágrimas. O público, que havia passado todo o fim de semana lá dentro, caiu no choro várias vezes, por causa de relatos de superação de pacientes de doenças degenerativas, vitórias improváveis sobre o câncer e muitas falas de pais enfrentando doenças terríveis em seus filhos — em especial epilepsias e autismos.

A Cultive é uma associação de pacientes fundada há pouco mais de dois anos para ajudar a enfrentar doenças sérias em si próprios ou em seus filhos — usando cannabis como remédio. O Curso de Cultivo e Redução de Danos é o momento em que o grupo recebe novos pacientes e pais. Era fácil identificar estes últimos no teatro: gente de aparência exausta, à flor da pele, tentando conter sua esperança depois de enfrentar muitas frustrações. Uma mãe contou que sua filha havia celebrado o primeiro aniversário e ainda não havia deixado o hospital. Um casal falou da frustração de tentar todos os remédios disponíveis na farmácia e, um a um, ir constatando sua inutilidade para a filha. Uma mãe manifestou seu medo de que uma planta crescendo em casa pudesse ser usada como pretexto jurídico pelo plano de saúde para negar ajuda. Muita gente dedicando a vida toda à tarefa difícil de manter seus filhos vivos, diante da ameaça de uma doença que pode matar a qualquer minuto.

A Cultive foi criada por um desses casais, cuja filha, Clárian, sofre de Síndrome de Dravet, uma epilepsia resistente a tratamentos que causa convulsões muito frequentes — todo dia — e muito longas — com mais de 1 hora. Crianças com esse mal não conseguem se desenvolver, tal a turbulência em seu cérebro, e com muita frequência não resistem vivas até a adolescência. Clárian estava lá no teatro, fazendo piadas com todo mundo. Ela tem 16 anos hoje, suas crises convulsivas são raras e não costumam mais passar de 1 minuto. Tudo graças a um óleo extraído pela sua família de uma variedade específica de maconha. “Se não fosse esse óleo, Clárian não estaria aqui”, diz Fabio Carvalho, o pai dela. Fabio e sua esposa, Cidinha, ganharam na Justiça em 2017 o direito de cultivar maconha legalmente para sua filha.

E é aí que essa história começa a ficar complexa. Os pais de Clárian só conseguiram iniciar—se nas artes da jardinagem graças a uma rede secreta de cultivadores de maconha, vários deles ligados a uma comunidade online chamada Growroom. Eles descobriram sobre o remédio em um documentário que passou na TV americana em 2014, sobre uma menina chamada Charlotte, que sofria do mesmo mal, não encontrou resposta nos hospitais que visitava quase todos os dias, e acabou sendo salva por um grupo de cultivadores de maconha do Colorado

Foi assim que se forjou uma aliança entre pais de uma criança com uma doença séria e amantes da maconha. Uma aliança improvável, que ainda conta com a participação de médicos reticentes, que nunca haviam aprendido sobre esse remédio na faculdade e mal sabiam como o sistema endocanabinoide funciona, já que o assunto estava — e, em grande medida, ainda está — ausente dos cursos.

Era essa curiosa aliança que estava representada no Bixiga no fim de semana — pais e pacientes, maconheiros e cultivadores, médicos e cientistas. Eles ouviram dezenas de relatos de tratamentos bem sucedidos de epilepsia, câncer, esclerose múltipla, dor crônica. Um pai levou todo mundo às lágrimas depois de contar a história de seu filho autista, que antes era “um vegetal revoltado”, e hoje “não está mais no mundinho dele. Ele está no nosso mundo. Ele está querendo viver.” O pai falou do filho cheio de amor, e depois seguiu contando, com amor parecido, sobre suas plantas.

Depois um cabeludo grandalhão subiu ao palco e lhe deram um microfone. Ele recusou. Não precisava. Diferentemente de quase todos os outros palestrantes, que tinham vozes embargadas e cansadas, saindo aos fiapos, seu vozeirão de trovão encheu o teatro. “Tenho 63 anos, fumo maconha desde os 15”, ele disse. “E, nestes dois dias, foi a primeira vez na minha vida em que venho para um evento e passo o tempo todo só ouvindo coisas boas sobre a minha plantinha.” E aí a voz dele quebrou e ele não fez questão de esconder as lágrimas que começaram a escorrer. “Chorei muito com vocês, virei fã de vocês. A partir de hoje, estarei junto com vocês”, ele disse, quando conseguiu voltar a falar. A plateia explodiu em aplausos.

Uma das muitas coisas incomuns que vi no encontro foi a frase de Fabio, o pai de Clárian, repetida muitas vezes: “não queremos dinheiro”. Ele pedia ajuda dos presentes, mas apenas na forma de compartilhamento de conhecimentos e trabalho voluntário: aulas de cultivo, participação na gestão, no cuidado das plantas, no fornecimento de sementes, na comunicação, no atendimento médico. Tudo lá era colaborativo, sem dinheiro circulando. Até o teatro, um dos mais conhecidos de São Paulo, que tinha sido cedido de graça — um dos funcionários tem um filho autista se beneficiando com o tratamento.

Além dos relatos de doenças, o público viu aulas de cultivo orgânico, ministrada por agricultores que também são fãs da planta. Médicos e cientistas também subiram ao palco para compartilhar pesquisas e experiências clínicas. Foi essa aliança que iniciou a conversa pública sobre cannabis medicinal no Brasil. Como a Cultive, há umas 40 associações promovendo esse encontro improvável, em todas as regiões do país. Depois que os cultivadores ajudaram os pacientes, a partir de 2014, houve amplo reconhecimento social da utilidade médica da planta. Tanto que agora há várias empresas farmacêuticas, de espírito corporativo e capital internacional, querendo entrar no mercado e fornecer remédios para aquela gente.

Tudo indica que eles vão conseguir. A Anvisa está em processo de regulamentação do cultivo e do registro de remédios canábicos, de maneira que apenas grandes empresas vão poder produzir esses medicamentos. O governo federal é contra, mas é difícil segurar – até porque conservadores também sofrem dessas doenças e histórias positivas com a cannabis vêm surgindo inclusive entre políticos de direita. Visitei uma dessas novas empresas farmacêuticas canábicas na semana passada. Um de seus executivos contava animado da possibilidade de sintetizar cada um dos componentes da cannabis, para que ninguém precise cultivá-la, e de encontrar substitutos não-psicoativos para o THC. substância de grande valor medicinal, apreciada também pelos usuários não-medicinais. Ao que tudo indica, vai chegar o dia em que pais e pacientes encontrarão os medicamentos salvadores nas prateleiras da farmácia, provavelmente com preços bem altos. Médicos poderão receitá-los, com segurança.
